Fruity, spicy, wood polish, bitter oakiness sasperella. I wouldn't say I've had a great bourbon run recently especially the rye ones to be honest. This screams youth and astringency. Not to much mint which is a plus. Once I work through the remnants of my sample collection I'll be forgoing purchasing any dram without a 4+ rating. To many average ones in the 3.5 - 3.9 range I've wasted my taste buds and liver cells on especially in the newer distillery and rye categories.

@Soba45 dead right! I tried to keep up with the craft brews but it was a quality /preference lottery that I just gave up and now stick to a core handful. Not there yet with whiskey but it could happen too.
@dubz480 Ah yeah good point I didn't think to hard about the make up of the dram. As you indicate youth plus experience ends up with a disjointed not that great dram.
@1901 Haha, it's getting that balance between trying different stuff and not plowing through to much crap I guess. The amount of distilleries world wide has exploded in the last several years so it's a bit like when I got into craft beer in NZ 15 years ago. It was easy to keep up with everything...now it's impossible with 150+ ones. There is enough experimentation and new stuff within one of my favourite breweries alone to suffice! This forum and you guys I follow is great for enabling keeping me focused on what I drink. The good thing is I found that I really don't like really old expensive stuff as much as mid aged range most of the time so I don't feel I'm missing out when something new and stupidly expensive comes out!
Spot on sir. This is a young (4yrs or less) Rye that just had some finishing to attempt to mask it's youth.
With over 600 tastes you’ve played the field enough to earn that right to be choosy!
