I see there's some debate on if this is exclusively sherry finished or bourbon and sherry. If this is all sherry, I seriously wonder what kind of cask they were.
Nose - Heavy vanilla and butter with a light fruity finish. A touch of sour fruits.
Taste - A touch sour, some wood funk, vanilla. Spices on the end.
Finish - here the sherry comes out leaving a nice sherry finish and some good spices.
This is a great deal when the question is "oldest whisky for the price" but is it a deal at 150 dollars? On that note I have to say overwhelmingly no. This just isn't very good.
Bottle has been open for about a week. Pour was let sit out over 40 minutes. Water was added after initial tasting.

@cascode those have to be some 6th or 7th fill casks to give off so much oak and so little sherry. But hey, nothing wrong with liking different whisky. This just doesn't taste like it was aged 25 years and thus I find it rather over priced for the flavor it provides. Nothing against the brand.
@cascode It's probably cos I'm not one for subtlety most of the time and so perhaps your right as my whiskey journey continues I may trend in that direction :-)
@Soba45 Maybe it's an old man's whisky :-) I was never that impressed by Glenfarclas until about 10 years ago when I suddenly acquired the taste. Actually, I think the whisky finally deigned to discover me rather than the reverse :P
@cascode Eh interesting. It's good to see a family owned distillery do well just not my cup of tea. I don't find them bad just not that interesting.
The 25 year old is 100% matured in a combination of first-fill and refill ex-oloroso casks. That's straight from the horse's mouth, and is confirmed on their website https://glenfarclas.com/whisky/the-aged-range/25-year-old-whisky/ Not everyone "gets" Glenfarclas - it's a very old fashioned style of single malt. All the more for me :-)
Yeah I haven't been a fan of GF at all. I had a bottle of this as well. I think they just over use their casks or something. Very weak flavors. They are cheap though.
I concur. I wasn’t overly impressed with any Glenfarclas- until I tried the cask strength stuff. It’s much better, and most part, cheaper.
