Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Weller is the classic bottom shelf line of wheaters from buffalo trace. With the recent rise in bourbon demand and failure to keep up with demand there's been a bit of insanity with these, plus the connections to Pappy. Now this bottle sells in some markets for an absurd $50. This was 15 dollar bourbon not long ago. The buffalo Trace marketing has worked wonders!
Nose - sugars, light oak (not finished oak), deep vanilla, strong sticky caramel. And of course a bit of alcohol. A bit if cinnamon on the nose as it opens up.
Taste - spice, oak, aspartame, vanilla, caramel. This is lacking depth and complexity. The flavors are muted for a 107.
Finish - cheap wood, some weird toast and more aspartame.
The hype on this is just mind blowing to me. This tastes nothing like any of the van winkles nor is it really that good.

@dhsilv2 Agree everyone has different taste / palate. Buffalo trace stuff in general is a bit frustrating. That being said This and Eagle rare are two I really enjoy. Don’t get the aspartame taste you describe but regardless hey to each and his own. Just thought 1 was a bit off, all good though gotta do you. Cheers!
agreed 100%
As for buffalo trace products with the same mash bill, honestly I can't keep track of which buffalo trace products are mash bill 1 or mash bill 2. I know I've been told the list 100x, but it was always pretty meaningless to me. I know the old "real" pappy line was all significantly better than this. I haven't had the new buffalo trace yeast line, though the 10 year I had a couple years ago blows this out of the water. I generally like the WSR over the 107, despite being a proof whore. Eagle Rare is generally better. Any btac (i'm sure all aren't the same mash bill..one's a rye lol). To be honest simple small batch knob creek is better, different mash bill but just better bourbon. I'd take standard buffalo trace over it as well. That aspertame flavor I get on the 107 is extremely off putting. But keep in mind a 1 star means it is still drinkable and enjoyable bourbon. A 1 star isn't so much an insult but more a statement that there's plenty of other better bourbon out there. I save awful for the sub 1 star scores, and i hope to do very few of those given one would hope nobody in 2019 would sell awful whisky.
@Southpaw22 well, first off all NOBODY is an idiot for liking what they like. If you love weller 107, enjoy it. It's at least here a farialy easy to get bottle though I know elsewhere it's unicorn status.
Interesting would be curious to know what bourbons you give above 1 stars? Regardless of my opinion as someone who drinks a lot of different whiskeys/bourbons and this is the best out of the Weller line and actually prefer to the Pappy’s I’ve tasted, aside from thinking it’s overhyped or overpriced at $49 now what would you prefer that’s same mash bill as Pappy, 7 years old, and 107 proof that is absolutely delicious? Just curios? Hard to respect 1 star for this, you must get some really great stuff, would love to know what it is? Just saying majority of people would agree with over a 4 star community rating, we must be idiots or you got a skunk bottle...
