The game of thrones bottles have gotten insanely popular but this one for some reason is going for well in excess of even some of the good ones. I have no idea what's driving this.
So first comment all of these bottles are comically overly colored and this one is no exception despite having an all black bottle. I don't really get it. And of course 43% because I guess it's cheaper?
Nose - lemon grass, salt, a touch of peat, and a bit of malt.
Taste - A mix of citrus, bitter, and sweet. This is actually pretty darn complex bringing in a nice bit of sea, oak, and sweet. You get a note of younger oak. The mouth feel starts decently when it starts but once you get used to the strong citrus notes it starts tasting more watery.
I intended to be pretty critical of this one, but it's been opening up since I bought it and frankly it's a pretty good dram. Should you seek it out? God no...it's just ok whisky and any markup would be absurd. That said if you have some locally for a fair price, pick it up, it's a great bottom shelf scotch that you can drink straight.

@geologyjane oh goodness, enjoy the clynelish. I think retail here was 70 and it was WELL worth it. That is the one bottle of the series I'd like a case of.
Thanks for your review. I found the Oban and Clynelish yesterday by chance for $48 while looking for something else. (Guess they’re liquidating in this ~3rd wave.) For that price, I finally picked those two up because I refused to pay over MSRP for them. I don’t need a full collection, I think I’m good with just half the set since these will ultimately be opened for enjoyment.
I've seen the lag and 2-3 others I have zero interest in. I've not seen this one showing back up. I'm all about screwing these "collectors". I hate that people buy whisky to resell, I can't hate them given how stupid the market it, but I hate that it happens.
@dhsilv2 @Richard-ModernDrinking yeah I’ve been seeing all of the GoT back except for the Clyneish. And two new JW ones.
Widely available for $70 or less since they released a third wave of bottles
@PBMichiganWolverine oh i saw the set over 2k, and this one I know a store they want basically MSRP, but you have to spend 1,000 bucks at the store before you have the right to buy. Which would make this on par with the super old Orphan Barrels that they have. That's a crazy premium to me.
There was a time just months ago that the entire set was going for $1000.
