A generous sample from bourbonjosh. Admittedly excited to try this as it has a 99 on Distiller.
Nose: Vanilla, poached pear, wood almost like cedar, grassy background notes, and a ton of butterscotch. Huge butterscotch punch in the nose. This smells awesome!
Flavor: Sweet wood notes meet and more vanilla and butterscotch. A little bit of a funky wood note from the barrel that I associate with sherried scotch with just a little bit of baking spices in the background.
Finish: Wow...medium length finish with a ton of toasted coconut, toasted oak, roasty toasty notes almost like you'd associate with a dark coffee but without the bitterness. Sweet and pleasant and then fading in to a hint of dried fig and dried cherry.
This stuff is awesome! Too bad I can't find it.

@bourbonjosh24 - yes, welcome to Distiller. I’m sure some Japanese whisky reviews, even brief ones, would be a big hit around here right now. That is the current “hotness” in all of the whisky world.
@bourbonjosh24 - welcome aboard!
@PBMichiganWolverine I don't think prices will go down, rather the opposite. When you see Japanese NAS whiskies sold out, being discontinued and tripled in price, it does not leave much hope for the age statement whiskies...
@Rick_M I’m not nearly as good at writing reviews as some of you all. But I have about 50 Japanese bottles alone and about 130 total. I really need to get more into distiller and mark down what’s lurking in my cabinets. I promise to work harder on doing it.
@PBMichiganWolverine - yes you did and it was unreal! @bourbonjosh24 - how about a few reviews so we can see what else you’re hiding in your cabinet. :)
@Rick_M dude, didn’t you already tried this one? I could’ve sworn I sent a sample. Or did I inadvertently leave you out of the Hibiki party ? 😢
@Rick_M you’ll have to ask him. 🤔
@Rick_M I like new friends lol.
@piechefguy - is @bourbonjosh24 accepting applications for new friends? :)
@Slainte-Mhath ¥ 70k is about $700USD. Wow. Painful indeed. You think once they finally pass the decade mark , after their recent ramp ups, that the price ever come back down ?
@PBMichiganWolverine I bought a bottle for about 70,000 Yen in Tokyo. Utterly painful, but after tasting it at Yamazaki Distillery, I had to buy a bottle. Almost as good as Yamazaki 18. It will be my next review in a few days...!
And to think, this stuff was barely over $150 about 5-6 yrs ago
