Another standout from last night’s tasting at @Richard-ModernDrinking. I’m continually baffled that how is it Mortlach puts out lousy original bottlings, but the IBs are superb. Something’s wrong with that logic.
If I had this alone without having had the Michter 10 rye, Ardbeg 19, and Octomore 10, this would’ve been easily a 5 star pour. But...when you’re in company of other superstars, you’ll get scrutinized a bit more than if you’re alone. Nonetheless, damn good pour, showing tastes of hazelnut and light sherry. Nutty and buttery aftertaste. Like maracona almonds.
Solid bottling by the always trusted G&M.

@PBMichiganWolverine The reason for poor Mortlach OBs is summed up in one word: Diagio. Mortlach as a single malt is just an afterthought for them. This G&M 25 is a great dram, and if funds are a little tight the G&M 15 is also very good - not quite the same class, but great at the price point.
@Richard-ModernDrinking @PBMichiganWolverine 1st fill apparently so should definitely be an experience!
@Soba45 wow - is it refill sherry?
@Soba45 that ‘71 should be a stunner.
Good to hear they do a good job as I have a 1971 G&M Mortlach I was hoping would be a cracker to open for my 50th!
@PBMichiganWolverine would love to. Will have to figure it out.
@Scott_E you definitely should next time
@Scott_E Please do!
What an exceptional flight. I may have to join you sometime. Nice reading the reviews of stuff that is often times unattainable for us commoners. Good stuff. Keep ‘me coming.
