Decent, but a little too sugary sweet and unbalanced. Understated spice with candied fruit, dry honey, and wood being the main flavors I taste. I think this would benefit from a higher proof, though it is a good bargain as is if you like the profile.
The more I drink this, the less I like it. After a few sips during my most recent pour, I added few drops of water (which I never do) trying to find a reason to like this more. No luck. Over time, this bottle seems to have become less complex and less sweet, with the fruit seeming to mostly disappear from the profile. I also get a stronger anise note that was not as prominent previously, along with dank wood/mushroom earthiness. Maybe this particular barrel was below average for this label. I don't do cocktails, but I may have to just to get rid of this one. I may also do some home blending to try to improve two sub-par selections.
