Wow
Please avoid it if you see it
I’ve had batch 1 of the rum and thought it was well done, so when the owner of the Jug Store here in town said he could get his hand on the two new releases, I said I was in
Grrr
J650 aged rum in calvados barrels
Tasting
Glen Cairn glass, medium amber, 131.12 proof
Nose: a strong funk aroma, but that’s it, no brown sugar, no sweetness, no apple aroma, minimal ethanol for the proof
Taste: thin, still with the vegetal taste, almost like tequila, minimal burn, smooth, no fruit, no sweetness
Finish: vegetal funk stays a long time
Thoughts: this is mediocre, if I wanted a good Jamaican funk, then I’d get a smith and cross for $30. I was thinking a well blended overproof rum with some apple essence would be nice (like four square or xxx)I don’t know what to say. I hate the idea of just using it as a mixer, but it’s a tough dram neat, as there’s nothing but the funk and high proof.
I tried it again two nights later, and I’m getting the same notes.
If that’s your thing, go for it.
I’m not necessarily a dosage rum person, and do enjoy Jamaican funk, especially with tiki, but this just has no purpose at the price.
And I have the J750 I haven’t cracked yet, do I bother?
