If you frolic in the garden of eccentrics and oddballs, then Säntis Malt Dreifaltigkeit is an obvious 'must try'. Heavily peated and matured in old beer casks, this Swiss obscurity would scare off any vegetarian. An onslaught of smoky, meaty and fatty aromas dominates the nose, ranging from bacon and BBQ sauce to kippers and burned matches. On the palate, notes of hops, Guinness and bitter herbs wrestle with the thick peat blanket. Salmiak, Jamón and a touch of soap mark the intense aftertaste. A unique flavor bomb that you will either love or hate.

This was a really good one-time must try...anything more would be really hard. It’s eccentricity dialed up 15 in a scale of 1 to 10
@dmoyer Certainly not a bad price for a 70 cl bottle!
@Slainte-Mhath 70cl https://www.finedrams.com/santis-dreifaltigkeit-whisky.html
@dmoyer Is that for a 50 cl or 70 cl bottle? In Europe, you rarely see 70 cl bottles of Dreifaltigkeit, it's mostly 50 cl.
@Slainte-Mhath It’s available on finedrams.com for US$67.73. Tempting...
I am not sure if this malt is even available outside of Europe, but it's well worth a try in case you see it. The main issue I have with 'Dreifaltigkeit' is that it does not really taste like whisky, but that does not imply that it's bad!
Sounds fascinating!
@Slainte-Mhath I had a sample of this from Flaviar a few years ago and absolutely loved it. You describe it well. I thought it was fantastic, would love to get a bottle of it.
Additional comment: This malt was incredible hard to rate. Any score between 70 and 88 points seemed just at some point during the tasting. I love the character, pioneering spirit and intransigence of this dram, but I can totally understand that some people will find it utterly disgusting. This whisky divides the community, and it's definitely 'different'.
