Had this a couple years back, wanted to revisit. Poured neat, good glass coat with thin legs. Nosing this is like sitting in an old study or den. You get chesterfield sofa leather, dusty books, wood ring with seasoned oak and heavily varnished flooring. There is some rye spice and a light vanilla sweetness. Palate is heated with initial caramel vanilla that gets overcome by heavy spice( raw cinnamon, clove, rye) and dominant wood. Body is thin but flavor is strong. Finish is drying oak and spice that has some bitterness. Its not overly harsh but wont be mistaken for smooth. More spicy than sweet. This is not comfort whiskey or dessert whiskey, this stuff wants to kick your ass. This is what they are going for I think with "Frontier whiskey"... in this regard they nailed it and I appreciate the effort. It presents a different profile from the usual suspects and is better than standard Jack and Jim and others....81/100

@skillerified Bulleit isnt amazing bourbon but for volume drinking at cost and solid value with consistency Its tough to beat imo. I think we all have exes we wonder what if
An ex of mine used to have this on hand at all times and would have a glass every night. Sometimes I think I should've held onto that one. At the very least, I'm way overdue for revisiting this.
Well I finally got around to buying the gift pack with the mugs. Revisiting this bourbon has been very positive. Its really just a workhorse bourbon. You can mix it, shoot it, have on ice or neat. Its all good. The spicy rye and heavy wood profile combine with nice zesty orange peel, leather and caramel. Bonus is its available all the time and cheap at low $20s. My palate has really come around on this one so bumping my score
@Guitar_mann Ill have to find that and buy it
@Ctrexman. Maybe it's the cool "Bulleit Orange" coffee mugs in this year's gift pack???
I dunno why but I keep thinking about this bourbon like Im craving it.....I didnt even give it a great score, whats up with that
