This is a bit different from most Islays. Much more subtle and refined. Poured neat , nose is complex with of course smoke but its restrained and mellow. Malt and wood, a floral quality, some raw carrot, bowling alley shoe spray along with salty ocean breeze and medicinal overtones round it all out. The palate is soft smoke and malt with an earthy peat quality with some vanilla sweetness and ground coffee. Again the refinement and nuance is unlike traditional Lap and Ard. Finish is dry barrel and long trailing smoky, salty malt with a dash of pepper. This is a thoughtful Islay. Instead of being walloped with peat and smoke you are only caressed and gently approached. Another thoroughly delicious Islay what a shock......91/100........ Im addicted to peated scotch its soooo good

@PBMichiganWolverine Yup I agree. Got given a bottle of CI 25 and loved it but I'd rate the 18 just as good or maybe slightly better at way cheaper a price
@PBMichiganWolverine I assume you mean the peated 18, which I have yet to see. I do see the unpeated 18 more commonly on the shelves.
If you see the 18, buy on sight. I think Islands and Islay really peaks generally around 18; the 18s of HP, Talisker and Laphroaig are some of the best
I’ve been looking for a bottle of this for a year and finally found one today for a decent price. Good tasting notes here for me to compare, thanks.
Great review with some unique notes! My like is for the shoe spray
