Ok so I really like the Storm and have been wanting to get my mitts on this for a while. Poured neat, nose is smoky caramel and malt with a little fruit and spicy oak. Creamy mouthfeel leads palate of rich malt, raw vanilla and butterscotch, roasted coffee bean, sweet barrel wood all wrapped in a luscious layer of smoke. Not the heavy handed Lap/Ard campfire with sizzle and fire. Think more along the lines of Lag16 refinement, yeah its good. Finish is forever with smoke and wood and malt and buttery salted caramel.......you get the idea. Just has a fullness and roundness to it that is great. I love this scotch...94/100........ I cant imagine how good the 18 or 25 is. I usually don't spend into that territory as Im a drinker not a taster. My bottles don't usually hang around long without concerted effort or just putting away. Better than the Storm imo

@1901 Whiskey exchange has samples if you want to try out?
@Soba45 i look forward to hearing your thoughts. I don’t know if i want you to like it or pan it - if you rate it highly it might stay stared at and unopened on its pedestal until God knows when :-)
@1901 I'll let you know about the 30 as I scored a sample this week :-). I find at the higher range Talisker is highly variable. I have had a terrible 25 and a great one. The bottle of 18 I had wasn't that great a bit rough and hot. I'm sure if I got another bottle itd be different again :-)
Nice review! Like you I thought it better than Storm, and IMO the 18yo is better still. I have a 30yo that unfortunately I have found neither the nerve nor occasion to open.
Yeah it seems peated scotch is an exception when it comes to age with many very good NAS even. However Lag 16 is so good I long to try Talisker 18
Good review! Personally it's one of my favorites of the range and I prefer it and the 8 yr special release to the 18 and even 25 bottlings. It's rougher round the edges and not as refined so to speak as the 25 but it has more of the talisker character that to much time in a cask fades away. My favorite would be the cask strength 8 year special release..sadly near impossible to get now but hopefully it will become a staple similar to the Laga 8.
