Tasted neat in a Glencairn. Allowed to sit for about 15 minutes before tasting.
This liquor pours a clear, very pale brass color. There is good sheeting and prominent legs when swirled.
On the nose is an immediate floral agave cactus note, I get some sage and sweetness, along with fresh ground black pepper. There is a slight barrel note, but its harmonious. It's a lovely, clean bouquet.
The taste is vegetal in a very good way - fresh, living plants. There is some sweetness, almost an apple juice note, then a waft of menthol. There is a bit of a barrel note that slides over the top of the full flavor profile. Tart quince and bitter almond elements come into play on the back end. There's a nice warmth, it's smooth and really has no harsh bite.
This is complex, smooth, and tasty. It's really a superb example of a fine tequila. I'm not a tequila expert, nor am I an unbridled enthusiast. I enjoy a good sipping tequila from time to time as a change of pace from rye, scotch and bourbon. To me, this is a definitive Reposado and it will be in my regular rotation. An outstanding product.
