@Scott_E my personal nightcap used to be: ice, one literal drop if licor 43 (think two drops if bitters, no more), a small small splash of high proof crown royal*, orange slice without rind, enough drambuie to round out glass and give the ice something to do but no more. *if I didnt have a generic brown with above 95proof I'd just always leave it out, remove the 43, and tone down the ice amount a notch.

orange slice, maybe a cherry if I feel feisty, and some ice cubes with a hefty drambuie pour is one of the most satisfying simple drinks when you get it just right. the orange slice always gets eaten.
