Dear Pirates, drop the rum. Get with Laphroaig. Just nosing the glass immediately takes me out to sea. It's a lot less smoky than I expected and honestly quite pleasant. I've been attempting to get my friend group into Islay scotch and I think Laphroaig is the place to start. Beautiful notes of iodine and peat on the nose, less meaty than an Ardbeg and less smoky than Lagavulin. Still leaves that awesome peat finish after you sip it though. It may not be as much of an experience as a Lagavulin, but damn if this isn't an amazing scotch.
