Number 2 on our tasting list.
Was meant to be spiced blackberry gin, the spice coming from cinnamon. So so this one, almost tasted rose petally instead.

Modern Gin — Wellington, New Zealand
@cascode Out of the few rums I’ve tried, Caroni is the only one I really liked. Closest to a whisky...more like a Cambeltown one
@PBMichiganWolverine Ha :-) I think you still have a good investment there.
@cascode Yeah I agree especially if the world economy implodes. @PBMichiganWolverine yeah. gut feeling says no but given I've been there done that i'm likely prejudiced in my view. However to add gin is highly diverse taste wise (on top of the juniper base) and very quick to market as no barrel aging unlike most rums (of decent quality). In my mind rum is quite same same.. there is a lot of variety but in a much narrower range. Like bourbon is to whiskey
@cascode damn it..so much for my few bottles of Caroni
@PBMichiganWolverine I doubt rum will ever have the breakout moment that whisk(e)y had. Gin and whisky will probably remain the two top spirits for a while yet, but I can see enthusiasm and consumption slowly adjusting down, and that will affect the industry. Some of the small craft distillers will probably be gone by the mid 20s.
@cascode what do you think is next? Rum?
@PBMichiganWolverine Certainly over here gin exploded about 5 years ago. In 2010 there were probably a dozen gins on the shelves of most bottle shops - maybe two dozen in big ones. Now there are scores. There were also ony 2 locally produced gins 10 years ago, and both were cheap bottom shelf swill - now a good proportion are local craft gins. However I think we're at the crest of a wave and it's about to break. Beer has followed exactly the same trajectory. Whisky is on the same path but is 5 years behind.
@cascode really? I missed that boat. A decade ago...I think I had reached just under a 100 in whiskey collection
@Soba45 Watch it sonny or I'll hit you with my Zimmer frame ! GET OFF MY LAWN YOU KIDS! Mumble ...
@cascode Remember we are old timers...we get on board trends long after they finish...haha
@PBMichiganWolverine Might be?!? Brother where art thou? The gin craze is almost over - so last decade :-)
@PBMichiganWolverine Yes. It's so diverse and quick to market.. like the fast fashion of the spirit world!
Gin might be the next whiskey—-seems like the younger generation might prefer the customization that gin allows
