Ah man I hate when you smell something you know you've smelt before a long time ago which is very distinctive and if only you could remember what it was people would be yeah that's it... so distinctive but so frustratingly unable to be labelled!
Thanks to @cascode I'm tasting my first in living memory (which is different to how long I have lived as my memory is very shite longer term...) calvados. This is what I love about this swapping programme getting to try heaps of different left field stuff.
This is something I on paper shouldn't like but weirdly I don't mind it.. it's not like drinking a spirit more a low abv liquor. Now don't get me wrong i'm not about to buy a bottle but it's almost like a summer quafer.
I'm not going to rate this one as I don't know how, i like to drink a lot of a type of spirit to get the feel of it before I do.
Thanks @cascode!

@PBMichiganWolverine Amen bro 👍
@cascode Nice memory association! I'd love to have had one like that or to be honest any decent memory from childhood... i'm to scared to google 'first sign of dementia' to be honest :-). I did hear one was loss of smell so so far i'm definitely ok on that front with a 5 and 7 year old reminding me daily it still exists!
I love calvados. Nothing spells autumn more than a nice glass of calvados .
My pleasure - I'm glad you found it interesting. I grew up in an area famous for its apple orchards and most of them had roadside shops/stalls where you could buy freshly picked apples and the owner's homemade apple cider, apple sauce, etc. That's what calvados instantly reminded me of - the smell of plank-lined apple warehouses, fermenting cider, and dad's car on the way home with a box of apples on the back seat.
