Well with a name like Peat Monster you get what is advertised. Nose is smokey to a very high degree. However, the first sip is somewhat surprising as it is not as peat heavy as the nose would have you believe. It is definitely still a smokey Scotch, but it is a bit more balanced than many I have tried. Very earthy and a bit medicinal, but has a smooth numbing burn finish. Overall not my style, but one that I could drink again.
