Tasted neat in a rocks glass at a local restaurant.
The nose is okay. There's sweet cream and vanilla there. And acetone and ethanol. A touch of latex paint and some cinnamon red hots make an appearance as the pour mellows.
Things are better on the palette. This is peppery, with a sweet foundation. Not bad at all. Better than VOB, but not in the same class as a Maker's, Maker's 46 or even a rye-inclusive bourbon like 1792 small batch.
There are several simple notes in the flavor profile. It's tasty, but not complex. Easy to sip. Good, but far from great.
This is a tasty $35 bottle. It's NOT competitive at $70, and it's not worth chasing Imho if above msrp

I agree with your assessment on price. I bought a bottle every chance I got at $30-$35. I have passed every time at the new $50 MSRP.
