Ok a rare lazy moment can anyone tell me where I can find the dates on the Springbanks? I've asked retailers and bar staff but no luck...I suspect it might be like Longrow 18 (we sure hunted for that date) so I might have to borrow the bottle for a while as the whiskey bar staff couldn't find it.
Anyhow whatever year (i suspect 2018 as tastes rum and bourbon), lovely dram. Is it worth the money? HELL NO not at $250USD. Buy two Dingles, maybe 3.
It's perfect classic SB but maybe too clean, I like a bit of 15 yr sherried sulphur tinted mongrel and this isn't that.
Still very very nice. Viscous lovely married bourbon rum.

@Soba45 just put my review out, wonderful wonderful stuff. The 2019 is however still my favorite 46% springbank. Don't tell mike as he's a 25 lover.
@dhsilv2 It sounds like the 2020 version is a winner!
@Slainte-Mhath there were some single cask "fresh port" bottles for a while 18-21 years old and the 2019 21 year was 45 or 55% port and the rest rum. plenty of nice port finished springbanks, but you're right the 25 especially they used to use port as a finisher pretty often vs full maturation.
If the 2018 that was imo their worst year ever. But I paid 418 for mine and i've bought 2 more 21's since. At 250, I'd daily drink this stuff!
@Slainte-Mhath @Rick_M I think the Amrut Peated Port is all matured in port.
@Rick_M Port casks are very expensive, so they are mainly used to finish a whisky. Can't remember that I had a 100% Port-matured whisky. The 10yo GlenDronach Port Wood was nice, but not interesting enough to buy a bottle. Glenmorangie 12, or now 14, is a possibility, but that's a finish as well.
@Rick_M Bladnoch Talia 25 Year Old - Port Pipe Finish was quite nice. i gave it a 4.25
@Rick_M Hmm I have a few however the best ones are the one off special releases, single barrels etc so no longer obtainable. Can you find any Benriach 17 yr Solstice around?
@Rick_M my quintessential port finished as been the Laphroaig Cairdeas Portwood. But—-outside auctions, that’s impossible to get now. Much more accessible is the Indian Amrut Port.
@Generously_Paul - yes, Glendronach Tawny Port 15 is one of my favorites. Also, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban went from 3 stars to 4 after a year of oxidation. Oxidation seems to improve port influenced. Hoping this helps with bottle of Dingle batch 3 recently opened and lackluster compared with batch 4.
@Rick_M Port finished Laphroaig is really good, as is Glenmorangie and GlenDronach. A nice, yet delicate budget port finished scotch is Glen Moray Classic Elgin Port Finished.
@PBMichiganWolverine @Soba45 @cascode @Slainte-Mhath - ok guys, give me your best recommendation for port influenced whisky. For me, this category has crept up to become number 2 behind my peated favorites.
@Soba45 I had to check bottle codes in the shop to be sure it was the Port version (2019). And yes, finding and reading these codes is a hassle...
@Slainte-Mhath nice! I've been hunting that down but either its 2018 versions or versions where the retailer has no idea so hopefully when they clear out 2018 stock I'll get to have a crack!
@cascode @Soba45 Just bought the Port/Rum matured Springbank 21. Had some great reviews and I love Port casks.
@cascode Yeah I'd be very keen to try the 2019. Mine didn't have the wow factor
@Soba45 US$250 is about the limit I'm willing to pay for a bottle, and then only very occasionally for some expressions. Springbank 21 is one of them, but I like to have some sherry or port influence in it. Springbank loves fresh sherry casks.
@PBMichiganWolverine Haha Dramfest nz is as far from that as you can get. Unless you have and old, ugly and mostly male fetish then you won't be getting any eye candy...which is how I like it as I've intensively trained over the last 2 years for this 2 day event and I want no distractions!
@Soba45 I’ve only been to 1 or 2 tastings, but they usually had beautiful men and women pouring the drinks. As soon as they said “this was aged in wood”, I figured it’s no sense asking questions.
@PBMichiganWolverine Will do I have a list of questions building up :-)
@Soba45 when you’re at the DramFest, can you ask one of the gurus there why they make it so painful? I’d ask... but I’m forbidden to go to any whiskey events, unless it’s the once or twice /yr we do at @Richard-ModernDrinking ‘s place
@PBMichiganWolverine Cheers yeah really don't know why they do that if they are going to the effort of doing it in the first place!
I found it on Longrow —it’s etched towards the bottom of the bottle in barely readable font. Making life unnecessarily difficult for the whiskey nerds
