I snagged this when it was first released in NC, which turned out to be good fortune because I haven't seen these bottles on the shelves since. Before I dive into the notes I have to say a 13-year old 100 proof American whiskey is an incredible value at $36. Can you imagine what the other prominent Tennessee distillery would charge for whiskey this old? $75? $100? Moving on.
I had George Dickel No. 12 before purchasing this, and one of the big differences is the corn dust/cereal nose/taste is tampered way way down in the BiB. Due to its age, I get a lot of sweet oak and black pepper on the nose with muted corn dust. I also get hints of tobacco and dark fruit.
I get more spice on the taste besides black pepper, but the corn and oak make this distinct from a lot of bourbons I like that lean more heavily into sweet dessert spices. Despite its age and proof, this whiskey avoids being harshly tannic. The oak flavor is sweet and smooth on the way down. I get more corn dust on the finish, reminding me this is a George Dickel product. Overall I think this is a fantastic addition to the market and an unbelievable value. If you see it, pick it up because I'm guessing it will always be in demand.

@dubz480 I'm definitely not going to buy kid's vitamins just so I can compare lol
@Zachary-Robbins and the BIB is less Flintstoney than the 12. I got the note everyone else did, but didn’t equate it with Vitamins until I heard someone else do so. Then it clicked and that’s all I think of now. Not a deal breaker for me, though.
@PBMichiganWolverine my understanding was that the BIB was a permanent line extension, but the age statement may fluctuate.
@Zachary-Robbins @PBMichiganWolverine chew some next time before you try this... you will never not taste that note again... just like Bananas and 1792 BiB
@Zachary-Robbins tax and trade bureau. They approve labels for all tabacco, spirits, and, I assume, other sins
@dubz480 I've heard a lot of video reviewers mention that vitamin note, but I've never experienced it myself. I guess what I think as sweet corn dust is more artificially flavored chalk/talc to others. My nose is messed up from being a chemist.
@dubz480 oh I love those flint stone vitamins ! Grew up on those. Good old days when mom used to give me a spoon of brandy after cleaning out the snow from a NJ blizzard. Now, we’d be arrested for child endangerment
@BDanner was the 13 BiB one time only?
@BDanner What's TTB?
It's hard for me to get passed the Dickel Flintstones vitamins note... it's tasty to be sure though... nice Review
@PBMichiganWolverine @Zachary-Robbins Austin has definitely hit a homerun. Dickel must be sitting on a ton of whiskey stocks. Just an FYI the TTB label that has been approved for the next release has an 11 year age statement.
@PBMichiganWolverine Yup, I really hope a cask strength is next on the agenda
Dickel’s Nicole Austin has made her mark with this one—-fabulously priced, respectable age statement, and readily found.
@BDanner Yup I saw it there during Christmas, but I picked up Old Forester 1920 and Pikesville with my brother to split.
If you are ever in Wilmington, the 16th St. ABC usually has this one in stock.
