I thought I'd pick something decent for my 800th tasting which the Project Manager in me was like hmm ahead of schedule which is usually good but maybe not in this situation..anyhow I remembered I had a sample of this and mindful of @PBMichiganWolverine experiences with expensive bottles I handled the dram carefully and made sure no one drank it by mistake.
It's a very nice drop, mellow light meadish peat. Very well integrated. Solid 4.25 which may have risen higher if I got a chance to work through a bottle.

@Scott_E Cheers mate! Alway try and make time for the good things in life...random insomnia often gives me extra time in my day plus whilst generally poor at multitasking, sampling whiskey whilst herding kids is one thing I excel at..haha
@Soba45 Wow. 800+. Your reviews are insightful, educational and interesting. Don’t know how you find the time. Keep ‘em coming. Stay well and enjoy. Cheers!
@1901 Cheers:-). Yeah unless something blows me away it's going to be star mark only to keep track of what i've been drinking to avoid both severe RSI and causing the distiller app to have a coronary heartache and finally disintegrate into a ball of mush :-)
Well done on hitting the 800 mark, and I'll watch out for exponential increases after Dramfest!
@cascode Cheers! Thanks for helping me get there :-)
@Soba45 Hey mate - just noticed this - congrats on 800 reviews!
@Soba45 Yeah funny that, if you are confident enough to follow yourself...!
... and apologies to everyone for unfollowing/following, I was trying to fix my account again after the problem of following myself. Distiller promised to fix this in their next update. It is only even possible when you are listed on the page of people you might want to follow, but there should be no option of following yourself. That destroys your feed...!
@Slainte-Mhath Ah nope not on my app i just double checked..maybe they are doing a /b testing and checking out who wants to follow themselves haha :-)
@Soba45 It's in the list of people you might want to follow... THERE is a follow button next to your own account, but don't click it, it's a nightmare ;-)
@Ctrexman You are absolutely right. In fact, I never rate or review a whisky based on a single taste. I have seen it all too often that my impression of a whisky changes after having a second pour. First impressions can be misleading, and it is also very interesting to see how a bottle can evolve over time.
@Slainte-Mhath Cheers :-). Uh that's weird on the android app there isn't a follow button beside your icon...or at least their wasn't when I last checked. That does sound stupid I was wondering why you kept unfollowing and following me..I thought stupid app is probably giving him grief!
@Soba45 Congratulation on 800 reviews! I was knocked out for a few days after accidentally hitting the follow button next to my own account... I didn't even know that it was possible to follow yourself (how stupid is that?), and worst of all, there was no way to undo this. Thanks to a manual fix by Distiller, I am back on track and able to look through my feed again.
Yeah I really prefer working a whole bottle for a review. Not only can it improve with time each tasting can be so impacted by palate fluctuations on a given day
@Rick_M Yeah I'll be peaking after Dramfest... also i'm no longer doing bulk sample buys so I'll run down those and some time around the 1000 mark tasting will drop of a cliff a bit i'm thinking!
@PBMichiganWolverine Yes I find there is definitely variance based on the situation, from experience up to a .5 rating either way but for me usually down as the surprise element seems to add a bonus. I generally find for bottles they generally improve a bit over the first taste but then revert back a bit as I get bored with them. Their are rarities that swing wildly e.g. first time i tried Ledaig but it generally has to be really different for wider variances in scores as I try to decide of i like it or not.
@PBMichiganWolverine Ah I think I'll be well overtaken soon. The guy who tasted the most last year is pretty prolific and repeated tastes for the same stuff...
Congrats.....I think. You’ve already lost all your feathers. What are you going to look like when you hit 1,000? :)
@Soba45 its also an interesting experiment of situational condition. So—-maybe you would’ve liked it more if you had a chance to work through a full bottle. And my expectations would’ve been tempered if I wasn’t scrambling for the last few sips. Interesting how the situation impacts our tastes.
@Soba45 you might be first to make it to 1000.
@geologyjane Cheers :-). I have Dramfest in a few weeks so I don't think 900 is that far away either!
@Soba45 - Congrats on 800! Here’s to 800 more (and your continued enjoyment of Tobias and the Angel)
