Kilkerran 15 Single Cask Oloroso Wood
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland

Beautiful! The nose is filled with cinnamon, rich ruby fruits, confection sugar, slight basil, trademark leather, and nutmeg. Palate brings luscious strawberries/raspberries, star anise/all spice, black pepper, sulfur, slight woodiness, but the sherry shines. The finish is nice and long with dark/milk chocolate and black currants/cherries with slight tobacco. Is able to hang easily with the Balvenie 15 Single Barrel. Exquisite dram! The theme should be equal of the song. This one is “Pneuma” from Tool. Damn, I wish it wasn’t limited.

@Telex Any whisky that evokes Tool is OK by me 😄
@PBMichiganWolverine Technically no, it's a long finishing maturation because the contents stayed isolated and were just transferred to different casks. If they mixed two together, that would be a vatting.
You need to study and follow the batch numbers and dates on the bottle to make sense of Kilkerran. I'm starting to think Frank Hardy is making it intentionally hard to untangle the casking just for sh**s and giggles.
@Telex in which case...how can they call that single cask? Isn’t it still then a vetting of different casks
@Telex so—-mine was 10 yrs in fino, then 5 in bourbon?
IMPORTANT note I just found out! My version is the Oloroso, yours is the Fino ... per whisky.com: - 5 Cask Types - 12 Single Casks - 16 Countries - The range of single casks all spent 10 years in their respective casks and then were re-racked into re-fill bourbon casks for the next 5 years."
If it’s the new 2019 yes. If older, then it’s not as sherried, more of a bourbon cask.
Yeah—-I do—-fully plan on opening and enjoying. I have the 8 yr one too, which I think was also fully sherry matured?
Oh yes, if you have one of these, I don’t see how you wouldn’t enjoy it. High caliber.
This has become tough to find. Seems like the search was worth it though.
Next show Tuesday will be on this one as well. A nice sneak peek.
