Never had a Balblair before and i didn't have any expectations. Actually is a good dram, i wouldn't buy it again, but it is enjoyable and if i ever find it in a party i would drink it.
Bottled at 46%abv with a pale staw color.
On the nose only 4 notes but lovely aroma: cake, butter, chocolate butter cake (lol) and some herbal note.
On the palate, more complex and interesting: hay, tobacco, smoke, ashes, bitter chocolate, brownie. It is oily and hot, and the finish is medium long, hot but pleasant.
Overall i give this dram an 88 over 100. Cheers!

@malt_muser thanks!
@Jan-Kaselitz that is, without a doubt, the best way to try new whiskies. with samples. i often use the ones from drinks by the dram
@cascode it was so long ago when i made this review! i remember liking this dram a lot, but for some reason i stopped giving balblair any more opportunities. i will surely have it on my radar again
The reason this and the 1989 vintage are just about the only ones you still find on the shelves is that they were the least popular. That should indicate how good the popular ones were :-) If you ever get a chance to taste the 1990 or 1991 vintages, don't pass it by.
Sounds good. Balblair is one of the remaining whiskies I want to try which I still haven’t because somehow now one sells samples here. Now I need to try to convince my whisky dealer to maybe let me have a pour in one of the hopefully soon upcoming tasting events.
Nice review 🥃👍
