Beattie's Potato Gin
Distilled Gin — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed

Smooth with light crisp juniper and a soft citrus acidity. The profile's a little plain but it's pleasant, very easy drinking. $40 in Ontario.

Ya, Beattie’s is from Alliston, ON, 20 min from where I used to live. It’s a big potato producing area that has a potato festival each year (which is where Ms. Vickies chips started up - for all you other Canadians out there). They use their own potato’s to make vodka, gin, poitin, as well as a sweet potato spirit.
Lord only knows what fermenting potato juice must smell like 🤮
@PBMichiganWolverine As long as it contains at least neutral alcohol and juniper, it's gin. The vast majority of gin makers buy in the neutral spirit to use as the base, but I'd assume these guys are one of the minority who ferment and distill their own spirit - in this case from potatoes.
Except it's distilled with botanicals, making it gin...
Wouldn’t a potato gin just be vodka?
