Ah man a diverse but not satisfying ride tonight. A Mr. Black coffee liquer with expresso (the only time I'm drinking coffee and loving the combo - adding a cacao husk gin takes it to next level) to start and then it went down hill from there, Benriach 17 yr Solstice which although great on opening has like a lot of Benriachs faded waay too fast and although started at 4.25 to 4.5 is now down to 3.75 at best.. will have to give the other bottle away. Old Armagnac, mezcal, grappa, bols none of which was great and now back to whiskey.
Sadly this was one I bought a sample of in my "I'll try most things" phase which I've now realised is pointless..if most people say it's average or crap it is. Hencenow a days I'll only seek the good stuff as drinking whiskey should always be a delight not a chore..which this is.
Sweet honey mead on nose and palate with a hint of oak.. very watery and artificial. Tomatin do great stuff but they really let themselves down by pumping out garbage like this.

@LeeEvolved Yup you dodged a bullet for sure. Yeah real pity I can't offload. I could see how much to ship? I think I could be round the $50USD mark (legally declared) from memory. Not sure about duties your side though. I'd just sell it for cost.
@cascode Yeah what I meant is whilst I'm always open to trying anything really different there is zero point in my mind trying something that really has no point of difference and is not a good dram e.g. yet another poorly casked refill bourbon . I have limited time and liver left on this earth and given how much is out there these days I can get more awesome diversity from quality drams vs same same crap!
@Soba45 Oh I don't agree that "I'll try most things" is pointless. Every dram, even the terrible ones, is a unique experience that informs your palate. Appreciating any art form is a journey and you can't take shortcuts - the journey is it's own goal and reward. It is satisfying, however, to have reached a point where you can acquire with trust in your discrimination.
I remember trying to put this set together a year or so ago and the prices crept up at auction to the point I bailed out. Glad I did. Now, if there was only a way I could get that Solstice bottle from you cheaply and safely...
