Wilderness Trail Settlers Select Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye
Rye — Kentucky , USA

Brief tasting. Full notes some other time after I buy a bottle.
116 proof. Absolutely no ethanol on the nose but also relatively flat. Perhaps due to the stubby little tasting glass... it may offer a bit more character from a Glencairn.
Sweet... almost syrupy. Thick mouthfeel. Extremely easy to drink, sweetness dominates. No evidence of the proof. Background evidence of a licorice note, but very approachable. Will need to try again in a more relaxed setting but seems very promising. Much more appealing than the single barrel bourbon.

@PBMichiganWolverine if I have my facts straight, definitely their product. They have been on the leading edge of Kentucky upstarts. First distillery to graduate from the craft bourbon trail to the official trail. I find the barrel proof rye quite appealing, wasn’t enamored with the bourbon. Not necessarily “better” than competitors at the price point (say Willett 4-yr, Pikesville) but a quality offering and worth the cost.
@PBMichiganWolverine I have had their highvrye bourbon, wheat, and rye. all are quality for their ages but nothing exceptional.
@dhsilv2 they just got a pretty good review on malt as well. Have you tried this?
@PBMichiganWolverine it's their whisky. The story on these guys is that they've been one of the major suppliers of yeast for distilleries for some time.
Do they actually distill themselves, or is it a MGP /Canadian?
