Now apparently there are quite a few variants of this whiskey, 8, 10, 12 yr etc.
This is I believe the original bottled in 2017 with a run of 1350 bottles.
It was released for the 60th birthday celebration of the Chairman of Amrut. For the Chairman Mr. Neel Jagdale's birthday, they created the Greedy Angels 8 Year Old Chairman's Reserve Indian single malt - at the time, it was the oldest whisky they had released.
Now amongst the haze of Dramfest 2020 which despite 10 days passing I still haven't touched a whiskey (although that's about to change), this was towards the end and probably around the 900 mark but hey who really knows I just thought I'd pick a good one to celebrate the milestone. And it was..damn fine whiskey. One of my top 10 -15 out of the 120 plus that I recorded tasting. Would love a bottle but %$#!! the price dear godness...$250USD for an 8 year.
As an aside Amrut was in my top 5 bottlers/distilleries out of the 40 or so I tried.

@PBMichiganWolverine and NZ is now for the first time ever closing our borders to everyone bar citizens and permanent residents....they are determined to shut this thing out
@1901 Yeah I think I'll be doing a lot of spitting next time!
@Soba45 I don’t have great tips but like you I went for more than one session (two 3.5hr sessions). I brought vials to take away samples - I found that easier to do at the formal tastings classes than at the display stands. I also was pretty ruthless by binning (rather than downing) any pours that i didn’t like. Still only tasted 41 different whiskeys though - nothing like your liver-wrinkling amount!
@Richard-ModernDrinking I’m in. Btw—soap / water works best, but if needed you can make your own hand sanitizer by 60/40 aloe gel and isopropyl alcohol
@Richard-ModernDrinking Yeah I'll be really really trying to wind back purchasing going fwd as all the older rarer stuff I want to start getting into myself. I keep turning over the middle of the road stuff and hoarding the rest! Maybe another international swapping on the cards once things calm down?
Maybe I’ll open my bottle of this if everyone commits to doing likewise with one of their rare bottles. Doesn’t seem much point in hoarding them any longer... unless we can trade them for hand sanitizer.
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah but I wouldn't trust me 100% on that as Dramfest prior I didn't rate it (I think I may have mixed up notes or who knows maybe just completed stuffed palate as it was dram number 80 something day 2 on Dramfest 2018!). Joe C and others rated it very high thoug...although as scotchinghard indicated quality is plummeting so did I try an earlier or later batch? The Greedy Angel I tried was I believe their first release from 2017 3 years ago...not to sure why they were serving up older stock
@ScotchingHard Ah damn I was wondering about that. Often they start off good then get popular then they try and both recreate the experience and do it on a wider scale and then quality plummets..its the old Glenfiddich Project XX story.
I had an opportunity to buy this at 250 usd and I regret not doing it. The other amrut I regret not pulling the trigger on is spectrum batch 1. They just aren’t releasing the same fire these days.
@Soba45 was it the Kadhambam that made the top 5?
@1901 Cheers and yeah never ever again will I attempt that much. I'm generally very restrained these days but i was like a meth addicted kid in a crystal candy shop those two days...time stood still then condensed into a blur after which weird stuff happened and on autopilot I managed to get into taxis a plane and make my way home...Out of interest how do you both constrain and pace yourself at these things...I need tips for next time!
Congrats on 900! And you got value for your entrance fee at Dramfest - a staggering amount of sampling!
