Little Book Chapter 3: The Road Home
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky , USA

Another weekend on lockdown. Family movie time and some whiskey. This comes to me to longtime whisky pal across the other side of the the Hudson, @PBMichiganWolverine .
The nose is dense with a mix of aromas found in single barrel bourbons. Nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, dill spices. Sweetness of butterscotch , licorice, peanut brittle, cherries seep through the spice. All of this is encased with oak wood.
The initial sip is a blast of spice and wood and lidocaine. Subsequent sips become easier to discern flavors and the palate acclimates. Dominated by wood spices and tannins, whisps of vanilla, cherry NyQuil, ground cinnamon, cloves and dill.
The cherry NyQuil flavor remains on the palate with a wooden dryness, spearmint that with a timeless end.
A healthy dose of water softens the spicy edge and the buried sweetness is unveiled. Dark brown sugar, caramel, coffee, and bitter dark chocolate.
A potent whisky that is better developed and formed with the addition of water. However, overall, the whiskey seem very restricted, bound and wanting to be more and find itself. Not a bad dram, but I was anticipating more from a single barrel whiskey. A better experience can be had with Elijah Craig Barrel Proof it Four Roses Single Barrel. Stay well. Stay safe. @PBMichiganWolverine so far so good, so far. Helping the parents and older son (furloughed currently). Other is home for the rest of the semester; online classes only. His stuff is still in his dorm. Figure sometime in Maynor June we’ll be able to get it.
@Scott_E hanging in there—-working from home, home schooling—-but staying home sheltered in place. All good so far. You guys?
@jonwilkinson7309 looking forward to your comparison.
Thanks for the review! I also have a sample awaiting, courtesy of @PBMichiganWolverine. I'll have to break it out soon - I'm super interested to try it
@Scott_E umm...this is 10,000x better than bookers could dream of...which doesn't mean much.
@dhsilv2 True/agreed. The marketing is such that it packaged as a Bookers (bottle shape, labeling, etc). Deceptive? Not sure. Definitely not on par with Bookers.
This isn't really a bookers and it certianly isn't a single barrel. It's a blend of older bourbons, but I've noticed reviews seem to decline as this one opens up which is a shame. It was glorious on the neck.
@PBMichiganWolverine Agreed. I do like Booker’s but this just lacked a personality (can whiskey have a personality?). Not bad, but there is better for cheaper. Thank you for the sample. How you doing, so far? Family good? How’s the home schooling going?
This seems so dividing —personally I found it too hot to enjoy, but others seems to love it. Generally I’m not a fan of Booker’s—-just too young and hot. At the same price, I’d rather go for a Barrell or ECBP
