Whilst not a general fan of the flavour characteristics I find the XOs I've had the best of the bunch. Around 10 years seem to allow more of the distllate character to come through and not be overpowered by the wood.
Embarrassing it just hit me that that's probably a factor in why I have much preferred Cognac to date as it's the XO range I usually drink. Now XO can range widely in age (from the minimum) but generally is pegged around the decade plus a bit more point these days. This is apparently a blend of 12 year up to 25 but I have a feeling the bulk is towards the younger. The flavour is a bit more earthy woody cough syrupy than Cognac which is the additional factor which leans me towards the later. A bit like bourbon in that much past the early to mid teens can often be quite overdone.
This one really is a lovely drop though and has strength and depth of flavor even at 40%. Definitely my favourite dram of the night so far and probably my best ever Armagnac.
