I was having this while watching last night's Walking Dead. So...my opinions may be slightly skewed, Was a gut wrenching episode. Okay..so...I love the aroma on the nose--a sweet caramel with some floral notes. But, I think it falls short on the palette, just lacks the depth and complexity. Maybe an age thing? Finish is slightly bitter, almost like dried thyme. Not bad. But, nothing to write home about either.

Oh it so does. I watched that Negan-go-bat-crazy episode over a Springbank 10. Weird combo, I know, TWD and Single Malts...but, hey...whatever works. Yeah, I knew the tropical climate impacts angel's share, which is why it's so hard to find a subtropical whisky over 10 years of age ( I have Amrut Greedy Angels, which is 10 yr old, but I don' t think there's any older than that). What I can't tell is whether the climate helps their taste, or if it's just use of superior casks and craftmanship. So...I love Amruts, but really haven't found a liking to Kavalans
Usually, I am not a fan of NAS whiskies - with some prominent exceptions (Ardbeg Uigeadail, Aberlour A'bunadh, ...). Did you know that Kavalan looses about 15-18% whisky in casks PER YEAR due to angels share? Amazing. Would the cask be empty after 12-18 years? Hmm. I probably consider this as a 'good reason' not to write an age statement on the bottle... Btw, does watching 'Walking Dead' while tasting malts affect your judgement? ;-)
