Continuing my special Macallan reviews, now we go to Macallan Edition No. 2. The Edition 1 was fantastic, and this one.... it wasn't.
Bottled at 42.8%abv, also discontinued and a lot more famous than the No. 1. (This one has that whole orange/red label).
On the nose it was quite remarkable. Floral notes, brown sugar, Caramelized apple, Vanilla (the plant), very Herbal and Citric.
On the palate it just wasn't quite right. Strong liquorice note, cinnamon in an unbalanced way, very oaky not pleasant. In spanish we have this term: "empalagoso" which i believe that in english is "cloying".
Finish went the same way, too hot not pleasant.
Overall, and i am been generous here, this is a 74 over 100. For a very expensive and collectable whisky like this one, you should go in other directions. Cheers!
