Not a bad drop despite it weighing in at 40%. Not really a lot to get excited about just a solid down the middle standard honey, oak, vanilla affair. Decent mouth feel but slightly bitter finish which after a while really bugs me.

@jonwilkinson7309 Yes definitely won't be going to far away. Yeah probably something not to dwell on too much as I start thinking about my poor internal organs!
@Soba45 Even if you slow down the reviewing, as long as you're still here! 1000 is hard to comprehend.
@cascode Yes the experience and what you get out if it transcends the medium. Psychology wise I think my tastes are 1) Part social 2) Part completionist 3) Part wanting to remember what I've tasted. Id like to move away from 2), 1) I don't need to actually taste myself and 3) I'll just revert to a star rating I think. 2) along with my anti hoarding tendency (my mum was a MAJOR hoarder) is also driving the need to drink every sample I currently have and then similar to my beer obsession step away and smell the roses so to speak.. it's been a very successful trait in my professional life..personal side wise has it's side affects as my wife can attest to!
@Soba45 It's funny but I can't imagine not wanting to write comprehensive tasting notes. I've been doing it since way before social networking or the existence of this particular site, and I'll still be recording tasting notes in my journal long after Distiller is a distant memory. I guess I'm a frustrated writer ... or a plain old blowhard ... or maybe it's a manifestation of OCD.
@Scott_E Yeah the thing with trying something new each time is I feel you have to critique it even in a token effort way. Looking fwd to less of that....once I get down to the last couple of dozen samples I'll start mixing up a bit more with open bottles...it is hard though as I'm part magpie I think..always attracted by the next new shinny whiskey sample I haven't yet tried :-)
@PBMichiganWolverine @Soba45 Same here. I only drink on the weekends and try to sample one per week. But I don’t always I want to formally analyze. Just sip and enjoy the moment I do most enjoy. And learn from others here their experiences and what I want to seek out.
@Soba45 that’s sort of what I’ve been doing—a pour 1x/week but more so interacting and living vicariously through others
@cascode @PBMichiganWolverine Only have 50ish samples to go then I'll be winding /slowing down considerably on the tasting front. Most of my good friends have either given up or cut back drinking all together to get healthy so I'm definitely the odd one out! No more MoM/Whiskey exchange sample buying (unless I win big in lotto and then I might do an ultra rare sample over the top bunch of samples :-)). It's been a good run over the last 6 years but like my beer and wine phases before it this one will be moving to the occasion one here and there I think. Whilst I love trying different stuff sometimes to much variety is not good for you! Will be nice to take a back seat and do less reviewing and more just ambling slowly through a particular bottle for a while. Yeah not to sure about the 1000 mark and what to taste. I'm in two minds something special or something which just brings me back to my roots and where I started on this journey...maybe the latter as these days special isn't really that special given what I've been lucky to taste! I think that reviewer who tasted the most last year magicalpoet will soon cross as he seems to log a tasting literally ever taste he does often of the same thing over and over again so that type of tasting volume is hard to beat! I'm at the stage where I'm enjoying the interaction on this forum more than the drinking I think so will be good to take a back seat and live vicariously through others experiences :-). I'd love to crack open a great bottle and share it out with those I interact with..just not sure how practical it is given people are scattered everywhere.
you gotta make that 1000 special. Might be the only one to reach that, aside from pro-reviewers
17 reviews to go 😉 look at that kiwi fly!
@cascode Ah that would have been funny if we posted at nearly the same time on the same dram! I preferred the Deanston from memory over this one.
Ha! I almost grabbed my sample of this to review tonight but went for the Deanston 18 instead.
