I tasted this and it was nice, but after all the good honest whisky we’ve had out of Canada recently I don’t have much patience for a rule that allows a splash of brandy. Mixing spirits is what I call a cocktail. I enjoy cocktails. I like to make them too. It’s just a huge part of the enjoyment of whisky for me is marveling at the magic of time and wood. This feels like cheating. I don’t judge anyone who loves this or other traditional Canadian whiskies, but I’ll save my tasting notes and ratings for the unadulterated stuff.

Very fair stance on Canadian blending. IMHO something like 1-3% other spirits might be OK as a more controlled substitute for finishing, but I think you're right that 1/11th is really in cocktail territory.
@PBMichiganWolverine I think it was originally 1/11th. @Anthology There’s no universe in which I would pay $300 for this.
@Richard-ModernDrinking Was it go-out-and-get-a-bottle “nice”, or just nice tastes good?
@Richard-ModernDrinking that 9.09% is interesting. It’s either based on an Arvogadro’s Law style perfection, or just a middle finger to the blenders.
@PBMichiganWolverine The rules for Canadian whiskey allow you to add up to 9.09% of another flavoring spirit. In the ‘80s and ‘90s they often added alcohol made from used citrus squeezed for its juice.
Most expensive 12 year old...loot Canadian liquor laws.
I just read the description. They’re open in stating 9.09% as non-whiskey ( seems like a random number ). But...they have a 12yr rye in there too. So...technically this isn’t really 42yr old. It’s a 12 yr old
Wait ...this is whiskey + brandy? They marketed as that, or was it hidden in some detail ?
