This is a fabulous whisky. I bought a bottle of the original anniversary release for $50 when it came out in 2016 but only opened it a few weeks ago. It’s a wonderful balance of kipper smoke and sweet caramel lozenges and while not particularly complex it’s deliciously rich and satisfying without a bad note to its score. If the more recent batches are as good as this, it’s surely one of the best values in peated Scotch right now.

@Richard-ModernDrinking I really like this Lagavulin, and I must commend Diageo for using an age statement on this bottle.
@PBMichiganWolverine Looking forward to hearing your views on the Ardbeg. I didn't buy yet.
It does indeed seem to be widely available for under $50 now. I may have to pick up another bottle, because my partner has nearly finished off the one I opened!
@PBMichiganWolverine $100+ is madness. Even over here this is US$50-60
@Richard-ModernDrinking Agreed, this one showcases the naked and unadorned distillery character to perfection. I had a bottle of a recent batch not long ago and if it was inferior to the anniversary batch it was only by 1 percentage point.
@jonwilkinson7309 $35 is a great price. Here it’s about $45. But online, there’s price gauging for $100+
I've found this one for a little as $35. Stunning VFM.
Will be interesting to see if the new Ardbeg Wee Beastie is a great VFM as well
