This smells rich, woody, Earthy, sweet, and a little herbal with hints of spice. The palate is dry, woody, minty, and generally bitter. The wood has a nice depth of flavor though. It gets pretty bitter on the end, but until then it has a fine, wavy complexity. It blends well with the caramel sweetness. It doesn't have the complexity of Glenfarclas 25 but it does remind me a bit of it. This is a really dry drink, but it is super rich. The bitterness is a bit much and it does accentuate the alcohol a bit, but it also kind of masks it. The cocoa flavor is very helpful. There is some mint, but it is minimal. Lemon is more represent than lime, but it isn't overwhelming at all. There is some vanilla, but it isn't overly flamboyant and floral notes are minimal. The richness combined with the sweetness makes for a strong core flavor that has a mild mouth-watering effect and brings in subtlety throughout. The finish is a little too dry, but it's also quite tasty. The barrel spices are under control and fit the drink well. It doesn't taste much like a tequila, but it does have a few notes. It's hard to guess what kind of spirit this is, but it's clear that it is very good. This is the closest rival to Fuentesca that I have found. It's a tough call between a 17 and an 18 on this one.
