After a weak Balvenie line up i was hoping for a decent dram and this delivered. I had heard good things about this bottler and this 27 year effort is a good one. Even at 45% water opens up nicely. Spice, rich creamy sherry and lovely warming aftertaste. An overly drying finish takes it down a notch however all in all a nice job

@Anthology yeah, I almost got that as well. But for that much money, I want to know the age, as well as the distillery.
@PBMichiganWolverine I heard the same about Samaroli. Was eyeing their Ferry to Islay (2016 edition), going for north of $300 at a local retailer here in SoCal...but...with no age statement, I’m hesitant to pull the trigger. For that kind of $$$, I kinda need to know the age(s) of the malt. I read somewhere they source their Islay barrels primarily from Coal Ila & Bunnahabhain, two of my favorite distilleries. Still, need more info on this FtI bottling before I plunge. Thoughts?
@jonwilkinson7309 Silvio Samaroli was reportedly having a knack for nosing great casks, and found gems in obscure distilleries. Unfortunately I think now (few years since his passing), it’s not the same.
@jonwilkinson7309 Yes I heard they were great independent old school Italian bottlers and always turned out great stuff so I thought it'd have to try one if their offerings.
@PBMichiganWolverine Ah no just catching up on posting tasting notes. i haven't had a dram for a couple of weeks now!
Wow...this one appears to be very rare.
Wow...you plowed through a lot in one sitting
