I had this early on in my whiskey journey, and I liked it then, but I didn’t know why exactly. The second time around trying neat, I detect more in it. It’s definitely a spicy bourbon with it being so high in rye. The nose smells like a typical bourbon. The taste has notes of vanilla, a good deal of rye spice, and light cinnamon. The follow through feels like smoke, not in the sense of peat from scotch, but it feels like a cigar burn type of smokiness. It’s definitely not as “interesting” as some of the other bourbons, but for the price, it’s probably going to be a bourbon that I keep around always.
