Nose - smokey fruits, super smooth, no alcohol burn. Oddly enough, I get a slight smell of fruity bubble gum, and raisins as well.
Taste - This is one of my favorite single malt scotch-like whiskey that I have had to date. I am definitely a fan of the proof (106) for this one, it really helps out the flavors and complexities in the taste. Definitely a full feeling whiskey. Tasting notes are dark fruits, rye spice, and the previously mentioned sweet bubble gum. One last tasting note that I can't quite pin down almost tastes like subtle chocolate to me, and it is most present at the follow through mostly.
Follow through - Really like the mouth feel, and the lingering "burn" if that's even what I should call it. It coats the tongue nice, and leaves a nice aftertaste. It leaves me feeling nice and warm.
All in all, this whiskey made me excited, as I haven't been a huge fan of many single malts so far in my whiskey journey. But drinking this makes me want to go try out some other single malt scotches and see if my tastes have changed. I don't recommend adding any water to this, it definitely got rid of all of the complexity, but I bet some whiskey stones with this could be pretty enjoyable. I definitely could enjoy having a full bottle of this someday. Balcones is the best, I've really liked everything from them that I have tasted so far.
