Another belated mess of thoughts. This was pleasant, rich and checked many of the boxes for a good rye (brown sugar, vanilla, rye-raisin toast, chocolate). Nose and palate came together with few surprises and the finish was medium long, warm and packed with brown sugar sweetness and a hint of spice.
I would drink this any day but don’t know that I’d pay MSRP, let alone secondary, to have another go at it. Definitely appreciate the chance to try it though and anyone who scored a bottle is unlikely to have regrets. It’s all together a great rye but not one that stands apart for me.

@dhsilv2 the char and chewiness of it were great. I think I missed some of the funky spearmint notes and anise that I’ve picked up on Willet ryes and Russels green label rye. This one reminded me a lot of a sleeper knob creek rye store pick but with more depth of flavor and longer finish. I almost nabbed one of my own but watched it vanish last fall at a release and if I saw it again I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t buy it.
Interesting, what rye's stand apart for you? For me, this is while a bit over priced, one of the best rye's I've had in recent years. I put it firmly over similarly priced Old Carter and Wild Turkey Masters Keep bottlings. Though I did really dig that level 5 char.
