This was a bit of a disappointment and all round distinctly average imo.
The nose was pleasant but plain, with notes of bread, honey, trifle, some ethanol and, after a while in the glass, werthers and musty raspberries.
The arrival is sharp and harsh enough to cause a little shudder. (Just a little shudder, mind you. Not a lot. Not like James Caan at a tollbooth. I’m man enough to handle 48%. Honest!) It develops to some orange, spice and oak and doesn’t really soften. Same on the finish, with a lasting numbness.
Tasted from a sample and I’m not at all inclined to seek out again.

@1901 lol. I had to reread. Yes, a touch of water softens the edges of the 48% (nice percentage) from the unhydrated pour. I may have to grab another bottle of this next time I see it.
@Scott_E I checked out your review there. Good review and we share some similar notes, but i see you describe it as soft. Maybe I needed to experiment with some water.
@1901 I have the FR many moons ago and thought it was quite good, though I was really just starting my whisky tasting. Both the 12 and FR are good, imo, reasonably priced. No surprises by either. Straight forward good sippers. I still keep an eye for GG. Still have some of the 12 in my “cabinet”.
@1901 I haven't tried it myself, but it is on the list. Ralfy has reviewed it quite favorably.
@Slainte-Mhath i had seen that in some reviews but I haven’t tried i. It has an avg rating here of 3.7 compared to 3.5 for the Founders, so even if it is a small improvement I can’t say that I would inclined to seek it out. Unless any of the patrons of this site were to strongly recommend it?
@1901 The 12-year-old expression got some really good reviews, I suppose it's much better than its NAS sibling.
