Beautiful deep amber color
Nose: strong ethanol at first, but after resting in glencairn for 10 minutes the nose is much sweeter and enjoyable. I get mostly sweet vanilla and some caramel on the nose.
Palate: mostly caramel on the palate for meat first. Then the notes turn to mostly spice and oak. Not overly complex, but still a solid bourbon all around. Slightly spicy and more burn than expected given the age, but the 100 proof probably is why. The finish is relatively long and bold.
Overall, I can’t say this whisky completely lives up to what I have read about it, but it’s very good nonetheless. Nothing is too complex or surprising about this bottle other than the strong nose. Definitely is better rested to help with the ethanol aromas. I can see why this bottle is so devisive given how single bottle expressions can vary. McKenna 10 is still certainly worth trying if you have the chance.
