I still am not a huge fan of scotch at all, as opposed to Bourbon and Rye. Something about the mixture of smokey and often fruity flavors always makes me disinterested.
That being said, I do enjoy this whiskey to an extent. I'm able to appreciate it for what it is, and it seems like it's a really well made whiskey. It's tastefully smokey, and the fruitiness isn't too much .
The nose is mostly peat/smoke. Taste is fruity with smoke. Similar to Chivas Regal in my opinion. The follow through is really quick, and there's not much alcohol burn at all. I get a little bit of a honey note too on the taste/mouthfeel.
Overall, I like it and if there was going to be a scotch that I actually liked at this point in my whiskey journey, Highland Park's flavor profile matches up pretty well. It tastes pretty complex, and there's no weird boozy fruit note that I get in other scotches. It's all pretty mellow and goes down smooth. Currently enjoying it over ice and it definitely is improved to me on the rocks.
