Amrut Peated Indian Single Malt

I’ve consistently been impressed by Amrut. Combination of the Indian heat, quality production, and ingenuity has really created some top notch products in a wide range of price options.
This one here is using Scottish peat and North Indian barley. It’s about 6 yrs in used bourbon casks. Six years in Indian heat is more like 15-20 years in Scottish climate, given the high wood interaction. .
Aromas of burnt rubber and citrus. Taste is light smoky, strong fruity flavors.
At about $70 USD, this is a no-brainer buy-now.

@Scott_E nice ...open it up and savor it
@PBMichiganWolverine Just looked to see what one I have. Bottle No. 3 / Feb 2012
@ContemplativeFox yeah I was thinking the same—-three barreling efforts, and I paid only $80 at most. Labor is cheap in fields that are non-IT related in Bangalore
@Scott_E Scott —you cant even find the Kadhambam now, it’s been discontinued. I have two—from 2013 and 2017. I plan on opening one of those really soon ( whichever I can quickly find)
Oh, btw @WhiskeyLonghorn , when I said "I didn't know there was a CS peated", apparently what I meant to say was "I have a sample of that sitting in a box". Whoops.
Thanks, @PBMichiganWolverine . The Kadhambham sounds good, but appears to tragically be running $120 and up now, so I'll have to just passively hope to find it as a dusty. The sherry sounds really interesting though. Perhaps I just haven't looked enough into the details in the past, but I'm not aware of any other whiskey that starts with sherry, then switches to bourbon and back again. Especially surprising that they'd go through 3 barrels for an affordable whiskey.
@PBMichiganWolverine I have yet to have any Amrut, but years ago I purchased a bottle of Kadhambam for sub $70. I will open one day.
@ContemplativeFox @jonwilkinson7309. Sorry for the delay—-had power outage. Personally my favorite Amrut was Greedy Angels, but that is SIlLY priced. Out of the affordable range, I loved their Intermediate Sherry. That had sherry first, then bourbon, then sherry maturation. They just discontinued Kadhambham, but if you can find that one, it’s another low cost hit (about $60-70)
@jonwilkinson7309 Haha, you're welcome. I'm sure your problem before was that you didn't have enough bottles to track down.
@ContemplativeFox @WhiskeyLonghorn Thanks! That gives me several bottles to track down.
@WhiskeyLonghorn @jonwilkinson7309 I also enjoyed the Portonova, though I found it tasted a bit like damp cardboard, which pushed it below the Fusion for me. I see @WhiskeyLonghorn also thought that the Fusion was a tad better, but both are great. I didn't know there was a CS peated and now I need to add one more to my list to try. The tragedies of life. I'd be interested to hear @PBMichiganWolverine 's thoughts on this.
@jonwilkinson7309 I quite liked the Fusion as well. Either that, the CS peated, or Portonova.
$6 for a pour? This sounds like the biggest steal out there. @jonwilkinson7309 I liked the Fusion. I'll have to try this and hope I can remember enough details from my tasting of the Fusion a year ago of it to compare them. Or just buy a bottle of that too *shrug*
I had a sample of this a few months ago (review sitting in a long backlog list) and was highly impressed. It was my first Amrut. So where should I go from here? The Fusion?
I had this and the cask strength version at a tasting last year (remember when we could go out?) and it was the clear standout. That six row barley is packed full of flavor!
