Aged Rum — Venezuela

Nose - butterscotch, vanilla, thyme, cinnamon, allspice, root beer, ginger snap, molasses, anise, overripe banana, grape, low ethanol burn.
Taste - butterscotch, caramel, root beer, thyme, cinnamon, syrupy molasses, anise, grape, mint, vanilla, low alcohol bite, finishing moderately long with lingering minty molasses and root beer flavors.
This is the first rum I’ve reviewed. It’s extremely sweet, which I’m not very accustomed to in a spirit. However, the depth of flavor is enticing and altogether tasty. After this experience, I’m definitely interested in trying more of them.

@ContemplativeFox Thanks. I’ll add those to my shopping list as well.
Appleton and El Dorado are both very solid. Plantation has a lot of good and interesting offerings as well (I'm particularly partial to their rum from Trinidad) and Doorly's XO and 12 are great VFM at ~$20-25.
@Ctrexman Thanks! I’ll give El Dorado a try as well.
Appletons is real good. I m a big fan of El Dorado. Ive had the 12 and 15 yr so far both are great
@ctbeck11 awesome. I hope its up your alley.
@bigwhitemike Thanks for the suggestion, Mike! I’ll add that one to my shopping list.
Diplomatico is quite tasty but exceptionally sweet - I think I've seen it estimated above 40 g/L of added sugar. For reference most rums with added sugar are ~15-20 g/L. The great news is there are some pretty phenomenal rums without any added sugar that still taste quite sweet and wonderfully complex. If you like this profile, I'd suggest Appleton Estate 12 year as the next stop. Zero added sugar (as required by Jamaican law) but incredibly rich, sweet, and dark. Also, should run about $35 to this bottle's $40-$45 pricetag. Cheers!
@Ctrexman Agreed, although it’s the first rum I’ve dedicated any time to reviewing, so I’m a complete novice. Have any suggestions for ones to try next?
Have a bottle of this right now. It is sweet but highly enjoyable imo
