Finishing off this bottle, you can check out my notes in a previous taste. Overall I liked this bottle and think it's worth $40 considering the age and proof. But I remember the days when I was a young grad student 7-8 years ago and I would see 10+ bottles of this and Buffalo Trace on the shelves every time I went to the ABC store. Back then it was $30 or maybe even cheaper, and the only time I bought it I thought it was too harsh and spicy. Things have certainly changed. Other than the awards and recognition I don't really get why this is so scarce now. It's good for what it is, but there are a lot of bourbons I like more at a similar price. Definitely do not overpay for this just because of its popularity, it's not worth it.

@jonwilkinson7309 Yikes!
@jonwilkinson7309 yeouch! glad some of you (zach, others) could try it reasonably...it is a very hard sell over ~$65 imo... the msrp is generous and people seem to think whiskey is an 'investment vehicle' these days (eye rolling...)... a month or two back I saw it @msrp or maybe 5 bucks over @ total wine and they had 6 out with a case or two on the shelf above it... 'limit 1 per customer'... I imagine it's all gone now because somebody thinks its old-days pricing JW18Y or some or long-gone value-with-holding-potential ... urgh... wish people would just drink and learn what a stash-worthy bottle really is...
@ContemplativeFox I've seen it in two stores for $99 recently. A complete non-starter for me.
Yeah, I paid $50 for this IIRC and it was worth that, but it wouldn't be worth the $80 that I see it going for everywhere now.
