Highland Park Valfather
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed
August 18, 2020 (edited August 4, 2022)
Nose – Stewed apples/pears, tea, peat smoke, heather, brininess.
Palate – Oakiness, mild dark chocolate, basil, molasses, caramel, more peat smoke…
Finish – Lime, ashy properties, black pepper falls short and fades quick – too short.
Water – N – Comp changes - Citrus tones, bright florals, mint.
P – Dulls palate – tames peat/oak but little else changes…same with F….
Peat level (12/15) (30 for Valkyrie), 35-40ppm is nice, but not the same as Islay… A bit above average, about 3.75 of 5. Feels young…$70

Yeah, the whole Val* line seems a bit young, but with smoke/peat to cover for it. I enjoyed the Valkyrie, but I can't say this is an amazing line.
It’s pretty good for middle of the road scotch drinkers, but for some of ya with access to the more quality stuff, it’s a harder sell.
Haven’t heard of this one. But I’ve written these guys off a long time ago. Only the IBs seem good.
