Chivas Regal 12 Year

Blended — Scotland

Reviewed August 19, 2020 (edited October 10, 2020)

Not a bad drop and dare I say a bit underrated. No idea why Chivas gets so much shit, there's nothing wrong with it. It's a bit too sweet for my liking but other than that it's.... pretty much just Scotch. Nothing offensive really. Nose of herbs, apple, honey and vanilla, with a bit of acetone, and a very similar taste with some grain whiskey influence. It's very drinkable neat and it also mixes well. Personally I rather enjoy Chivas Regal 12 and I think the single malt snobs who act like it's the most disgusting thing in the world are a bit full of themselves. It's far from the world's best whiskey, but it's not bad at all and it's so common and popular, being in every supermarket, restaurant and bar, so no matter where you get lost you'll always at least have Chivas.

Oof, wow, I didn't realize the ratings on this were so low. It's not awful and the 18 is actually pretty enjoyable. Nice tasting :)

I've never tried it because I really dislike the label and packaging. Gaudy and brash, it just doesn't say "Scotch" to me. Looks more like cheap cognac or something. Weird reason not to try it, but that's mine.
