Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye
Rye — Kentucky , USA

Wow. Don't sleep on this bottle.
The nose is a cross between Pennsylvania rye and Kentucky rye, but muted - spice, black pepper, dark sugar
Flavor is all sweet cream but with a caramelized edge - like cream and sugar reduced on a stove to intensify the flavor and add a maillard effect. There is clear corn flavor that undercuts the harshness of the rye here (low rye, high corn mashbill), with muted rye in the nose and a smokey rye undercurrent throughout. Some associate the flavor undercurrent with tobacco, like a fine smooth cigar with a marshmallow fluff like quality underneath. This is a WINNER.

@BeerNinjaEsq I cracked it open last week to let it breathe a bit, and the aroma is heavenly coming out of the bottle. Unlike any rye I’ve tried so far. Looking forward to a few pours this weekend. Also, thanks for doing the SBS with the Cornerstone. I almost dropped the money for that one, but I’ll keep saving for that Glendronach single cask I’ve had my eye on instead.
@WhiskeyLonghorn well, your single barrel will almost certainly be different than mine, so I await your review
@ContemplativeFox this is the first and only bottling I've had of this, so I really hope whatever bottle you get is just as good as the one I did
@WhiskeyLonghorn Just pulled the trigger on a bottle of this. Looking forward to getting to try it!
I had this one in the hopper to review this weekend. You beat me to it!
