Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
Blended — Ireland

There are three questions that keep me up at night. Is a fraggle a muppet? How come meteors always seem to land in craters? Why does this Irishman not like Jameson or Guinness?
I feel like I should hand in my passport after admitting that. With that in mind, and also because I’ve had the Teeling Stout Cask and did not like it at all, I was geared up to post a rock bottom rating for this one.
My father currently favours this Jameson for his occasional hot whiskey and I had a measure while on a visit at his house. It could have been the relaxing company, it could have been the fact it was our longest catchup and my first stay-over with the oul’ fella since the lifting of Covid restrictions, it could have been us riding out Storm Ellen in a warm country house (nothing to do with a ‘toxic’ talk show but rather an unseasonal Atlantic storm). Probably all of the above, but this pleasantly surprised me. Sweeter, silkier, chocolatier (eh?). It almost masked that metallic twang.
One less thing to keep me up at night.

@Slainte-Mhath sounds like a good percentage of the price tag is for the packaging. I hope the juice is as good as the juice box. I’d be interested to get your thoughts on it whenever you do open it.
@1901 I have not yet opened my bottle of Jameson 18 CS, but online reviews were very promising. Only the packaging is way over the top: a wooden box with heavy copper plates, the entire thing weighs more than 2 kg!
Thanks @Slainte-Mhath I haven’t found a Jameson I’ve loved.i had the Crested 10 which is well regarded here, but it didn’t do it for me. Nor did Bold or Round, and I think that’s about it apart from this and the regular blend. So, you rate the 18CS highly then?
@1901 Nice review! My whisky friends were puzzled when I bought a Jameson 18 CS. Really? Jameson? I wouldn't spend much thought on their basic expressions, but some stuff is actually worth trying!
@CKarmios haha, yes. I get the reference but have not read the books.
I think you'll find the answer to all three questions is 42
This is the only Cask-Mate that I feel is improved by the additional cask.
